Dossier #4. CBK Loved To Laugh, Summer Skin In A Jar, Coloured iPhone Covers, Notes On Contrived Style & Depop Denim.
A weekly Dossier filled with things that are on my mind and in my cart...
Hello!
I wanted to try something fun, quick, and light on a regular basis. A few things that have caught my eye throughout the week and are worth sharing. So Consider This the Tuesday Dossier (well, Wednesday this week!). A weekly round-up of screenshots, saved links and other musings. It might be fun. Might not, ha. But here goes…
Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy loved to laugh.
Everyone is talking about CBK, well, the tragic styling of CBK’s character, in Ryan Murphy’s high-anticipated series, American Love Story. If only they had focused on the woman, not just the clothes. To me, this is where costume department went wrong. It is as though they were dressing-up Sarah Pidgeon (the actress) like some sort of CBK Barbie doll, not treating her as though she was actually Carolyn. Perhaps that is a lesson for all of us. To wear clothes that truly are “us”.
Costume aside, I think what bothered me most about the photo of her character was that she looked so cold. And cold was how the tabloids had portrayed her to be. But according to those who knew her, she was not cold. She made everyone feel welcome. She was a natural caretaker, which was one of the things John adored about her. I know this from reading Elizabeth Beller’s book, Once Upon A Time. The very first quote is something that stuck with me, it reads:
“She loved to laugh. Many of her friends feel sad that she being remembered primarily as a style icon. Carolyn should also be remembered for her warmth, for her kindness and generosity, for her wit, for her compassion and, most of all, for her great sense of fun.” —Colleen Curtis, Daily News, July 25, 1999.
While, the clothing is disastrous I like to think she’s looking down on all of us chuckling at meme’s and cracking jokes about how they could get it so wrong when her style is SO well documented as is her beauty routine which one of my favourite Australian beauty Editor’s
covered in her latest letter.Emma Lewisham Sunceutical SPF 50 Mineral Glow Serum is like summer skin in a jar.

I’m a huge EL fan and have raved about her skincare before (here and here), so when I was asked to trial the product I immediately said yes and this is now part of my off-duty routine. The best way I can describe it is, it reminds me of Charlotte Tilbury’s Flawless Filter but a lighter texture and with hydration and SPF benefits. Don’t be fooled by it’s bronzy appearance, once you start to work it into your skin, you are left with this beautiful glowy finish.
I’m obsessing with coloured iPhone cases…
Though Mimi could sell me anything! I just love how a coloured case adds a little personality and contrast. So easy and inexpensive if you want to dip your toe into colour without actually wearing any colour.
If you haven’t bought jeans on Depop… why?

I bought three pairs of jeans this week. One pair of vintage Levi’s, another pair of faded black 501’s and a pair of Slvrlake London jeans which I was about to buy full price but they kept selling out. Side note: the London’s are worth it full price. They are a great pair of jeans with a slight stretch which means they hold their shape well and also make your butt look great (size-up!). Depop has SO many great jeans–Agolde, Redone, Toteme (pounce on the black straight leg if you ever come across it!), St Agni, Marle, Nili Lotan, a million pairs of Levi’s including vintage and Khaite–yes you can even score a pair of Khaite Abigails if you’re lucky. Most of which are unworn or gently worn and a quarter of the price.
How to not feel and look contrived when getting dressed.
I will elaborate on this but for now, I just filmed a quick little video (added a filter because wow the bags are bagging and melasma is melasma-ing) for you about my outfit today which I wore to wrangle my nine-month-old and is not at all exciting but my point is that to find your style, start by adding little finishes to your regular pieces to make it feel like you. I, technically, did not need to wear a paracord anklet but, to me it felt somewhat essential. As did scrunching my sleeves and changing my cap to a raffia hat. The finishing touch may be an accessory or a shoe, nail polish, hair style etc. Anything that makes you exhale and feel “done”. It may even just be the way you roll your sleeves or button your shirt as
recently demonstrated in her how-to wear a button down video. In other words, don’t force it. Just see what you gravitate towards.Jade x
Gimmie that baby!!!!!!! 😍
I love your fit!! Lived in, refined, friendly. So chic. Also, I've been wanting to try Emma Lewisham forever, so this sunscreen will be my gateway product!! I'm currently halfway through a bottle of the Tatcha sunscreen, and I like it, but I feel like a glowy product is essential for these summer months so I'm excited to give EL a try. Thanks for the roundup, I'm a new subscriber and excited to be here!
